1. I’m hanging out with Sarah in some sort of courtyard. She is telling me about something or another and I can’t shake this sneaking suspicion that she is not really telling me the truth. Or maybe that she is hiding something from me. We talk more and then a skinnier version of Bill’s roommate Dan comes in with stitches all along his forehead. I start to piece things together. Sarah sighs and tells me that she took a machete and tried to open up Dan’s skull to get to something she didn’t have or couldn’t reach. This puzzled me, but was not entirely surprising. What did frighten me, however, was I turned my back on her and could hear the scraping of metal against bone. She had done it again.
2. I went back to my parent’s house in Rockford. I parked in the back driveway and my father led me around the garage to the back door. In the corner of the back yard is where they have their computer set up. They have bought a tiny little scanner. I remember this from a flyer at Best Buy that I saw before I left to get married so I mention it to my father who changes the subject. My mother is more willing to talk about it, though. She at least acknowledges its existence.
