Twenty four years of learning has led to a lot of growth, but the last four years have been the most important. What I have experienced in these last four years has been the creation and destruction of art through my education as an art student. As I grow from this experience, I mature. I take and accept responsibility for each creation I make. I am still growing, so my images are packed with failure and success. This is the most important aspect of my art. It shows my strengths and weaknesses. If I accept them, I will only learn and grow. With what I have learned about growth, I move closer to another stage of maturity, another stage of responsibility, and another stage of liability, which could ultimately end in success or failure. My life and art run this cycle over and over. The cycle will last however long it takes for me to accept and ecperience every stage of the cycle. Inevitably, I will move on with a learned experience and growth. A new cycle then starts. That is where I stand right now, at the beginning of a new cycle; a new learning experience. I am no longer an art student in the context of school, but an art student in the world. This show is the summation of four years of being an art student, experiencing, growing, and learning. -Jim Gasparick |
